How to Get the Right Linens

Planning every detail for your big day can get overwhelming. One detail that can take your special event from ordinary to extraordinary is custom linens.

According to Laine Moss, event coordinator with Special Events Rentals in Raleigh, color, texture and patterns in custom linens offer brides endless ways to decorate their tables to reflect their style. The most popular type of fabric right now is taffeta, Moss added.

"We rarely see the plain white polyester linen being used for weddings," she said.

Hot picks in linen colors this year include deep plums, metallics and blues.

"Of course, greens and pinks will always be popular," Moss added.

As far as costs, most brides are unaware of the reasonably priced options rental companies offer in terms of specialty linens.

"Typically, brides think that when they just add an overlay to an existing linen that the venue already offers, that they are saving money," Moss said. "However, prices for specialty linens are extremely affordable, which means they can order floor-length specialty linens for the same price as most overlays.

"The result is a more polished look for nearly the same cost."

If you're not sure where to start, Moss recommends narrowing down the colors you'd like to incorporate into the reception. The venue of your reception can also give some guidelines on what colors will and won't clash.

"If the bride has met with her florist and knows what type of centerpiece she wants, that will also help us plan for the linen and chairs," Moss added. "If a bride is going to have a very over-the-top centerpiece, then we try to keep the linen simple and understated."
