Spring Bridal Couture: Are You in the Know?

Written By Caitlin Clinard

Nothing but the perfect dress can make you feel like a princess on your wedding day. According to Alexia Joyce, owner of Alexia's Bridal Boutique in Cary, personal style is most important when choosing the ideal dress for your special day.

But fashion also plays a big role in the decision-making process. So what are the newest trends for spring bridal couture?

"Many designers are incorporating tiers and ruffles into their designs this season," said Joyce. "As for color, designers are still bringing it. Some are using softer accents of color within traditional gowns and others are saturating jewel tones and iridescent shades throughout the entire gown."

Vera Wang, Reem Acra and Carolina Hererra are among the leading designers setting the pace this season. And each finds her inspiration in something special. For example, Wang's inspiration comes from style icons of the '30s, '40s and '50s whereas Acra's comes from Paris.

If you want a timeless look, Joyce has the answer.

"Two classic looks will always be an all-lace gown or a simple gown with an A-line skirt," she said.

If you're concerned about what's on the way out of fashion, Joyce has some advice that goes both ways.

"Designers are trying to pull away from strapless," Joyce added. "But brides still want this look so it might be here to stay."

Still anxious about choosing the most fashionable couture this season? Joyce says to schedule an appointment with a boutique like Alexia's Bridal Boutique. She says many salons do not work one-on-one with clients but her boutique does. In addition, Alexia's Bridal Boutique carries only the top couture designers so brides are sure to find the most current fashions. Also, brides need to look for a boutique that keeps its staff educated on fashion and which styles best suit each particular body type.
